Establishing an Endowed Scholarship
An endowed scholarship or fellowship recognizes a students achievements and potential. Endowed scholarships or fellowships may be named in honor of the donor or any person or persons selected by the donor. Such scholarships or fellowships require a minimum gift of $10,000 to be named and invested as an endowment fund.
Each year approximately 4 percent of the annual earnings of the scholarship endowment fund are awarded as the scholarship or fellowship. Earnings in excess of 4 percent are reinvested to build the endowment.
Established in any college, department, or area of the University
of Utah, named endowed scholarship or fellowship funds may be
directed to assist undergraduate, graduate, resident, or nonresident
students.
"We want an entering class high in quality and high in diversity. We want to ensure that students who are academically qualified for the U start here and stay here. There are many well-qualified students to whom we cannot offer financial help, whether need or merit based. But our student population has tremendous need and tremendous potential. Providing financial help is a challege we must meet head-on."
-- Barbara H. Snyder, Vice President for Student Affairs, University of Utah
